December 2021 recorded 47,120 tourist arrivals in the country, making it the highest number of arrivals of any month post-Co-vid 19. With the new arrivals, the cumulative figure has risen to 152,109 tourists.
As tourist arrivals continue to increase steadily, the Minister of Tourism Prassana Ranatunga stated that the government is planning to promote Sri Lanka as an opulent tourist destination. He also said that Sri Lanka Tourism, Airport & Aviation Services (Lanka) Ltd and Sri Lankan Airlines would also conduct separate promotional events.
The government plans to recognize 2022 as the “Visit Sri Lanka Year” and integrate it with its five-year Global Communication Campaign, which hopes to attract 6 million tourists and revenue of $10 billion.
