Sri Lanka’s largest cement factory, a manufacturing facility for Lanwa Sanstha, was declared open on the 7th of March by president Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and prime minister Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse.

With an investment of $100 million, the facility commenced construction in 2020. With an annual production capacity of 4 million metric tons, it’s also one of the largest of its kind in South Asia. Out of the annual capacity, 2.8 million metric tons will be supplied to the domestic market. Spread across a land area of 63 acres, the plant is equipped to produce all kinds of cement, including Ordinary Portland, Portland Composite and Blended Hydraulics.

The duo also laid the foundation stone for a new steel factory, which will have an investment of $400 million. The new steel manufacturing facility will sit on a land area of 250 acres and is expected to begin production in late 2024.
