Sri Lanka Tourism Picks Up In The First 22 Days Of 2022

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is recovering exponentially as the first 22 days of the New Year recorded over 59,000 arrivals compared to the mere 1682 in the same period the previous year. 

The Russian Federation led the charts with 9697 tourists. This was followed by India with 8902, Ukraine with 5948, the United Kingdom with 5175 arrivals, and Germany with 3640 arrivals in January 2022. 

Shanthikumar, President of The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL), stated that business has picked up compared to the last two years. He also highlighted the importance of adhering to health guidelines to ensure that the recovery process goes smoothly.

Thilak Weerasinghe, the President of the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO), stated that the government needs to roll out a global marketing campaign to attract much-needed international attention.
