In an attempt to protect the sparse quantities of foreign reserves Prime Minister  Mahinda Rajapaksa in his role as the nation’s finance minister has issue a series  of special commodity levies (SCL’s) for a food items ranging from the LKR 1 – 1800 price range. The SCL’s are to take retrospective effect from the 18th of May,  2021.
