Due to the ongoing fuel shortage, only one-third of Sri Lanka’s privately owned buses will operate from Monday, June 6.

Releasing a statement, President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association Gemunu Wijeratne stated that the decision was taken due to insufficient rationed diesel supply to buses and drivers having to wait in queues for many hours. He further noted that drivers and conductors would work on rotation to minimize the impact on their livelihoods.

However, PM Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the government would maintain the fuel supply for three-wheelers.

Many Sri Lankans are opting to work from home due to the difficulties faced in obtaining fuel or finding alternative methods of transportation.
