Sri Lanka has recorded over 200,000 tourists so far for the year of 2022, the highest number per year post-pandemic. It also surpasses the number of tourists recorded for the entirety of 2021, which was 194,495. 21,964 tourists were recorded in the first six days of March alone.
Tourist arrivals are increasing amidst challenges posed by the global pandemic of Covid-19. Russian tourists are leading the figures, with a record of 31,912 tourists so far for the year of 2022, despite the unrest in Eastern Europe. However, Indian tourists are leading tourist traffic for the month of March, with 4395 tourist arrivals.
82,327 tourists were recorded in January this year, while 96,507 tourists were recorded in February, the highest in a month in 2 years.
