Epic Games, the owners of the Fortnite franchise and Houseparty video conference app announced the closure of Houseparty in a press release stating that the company is no longer able to “give the app or our community the attention it deserves”

Epic Games, acquired Houseparty for $35 million in 2019 and the app saw the height of its popularity during the pandemic when travel restrictions were imposed all around the world. In a single month, the company reported over 50 million sign-ups. Epic Games integrated Houseparty into Fornite which allowed players to chat while playing the game.

With the pandemic under control and people slowly returning to their original daily routines the apps popularity has faded into obscurity. The platform has been withdrawn from all the apps stores before fully closing in October 2021.

When inquired about the company’s plans they stated that they are working on a new Virtual- Reality sharing space.
