According to the General Secretary of the Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), Tuli Cooray Sri Lanka’s apparel industry experienced the fastest recovery and improved its exports tremendously.
According to the JAAF, the 2021 export figures for January- August rose by 19% recording $3.2 billion. The exact period of 2020 recorded only $2.694 billion, which was a 9.6% drop from the $3.545 billion in 2019.
The rapid vaccination of the apparel workforce has been credited for the industry’s recovery. General Secretary Tuli called for the government to implement appropriate health measures to help the industry reach its target of $5 billion in exports.
