According to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaire Calculation, 59-year old Gautam Adani has managed to edge out fellow Indian Billionaire Mukesh Ambani and claim the title of the wealthiest man in Asia. His current net worth of $90.1 billion also makes him the 10th richest man in the world.

As a college dropout, Mr. Adani started a commodity export firm in 1988, which grew and allowed him to appear on the Forbes Billionaire list in 2008 with a net worth of $9.3 billion.

The Adani Group consists of various companies ranging from power generation to real estate. Of the six companies listed in India, Adani Green Energy Ltd became the group’s most valuable company, increasing its share value by 77% the previous year.

The Adani Group’s unprecedented growth allowed Mr. Adani to nearly double his net worth from the $50.5 billion recorded in April 2021. During this period, fellow Indian Billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s only managed to record a 6.5% growth from his estimated net worth of $84. 5 billion.

Mr. Ambani’s Reliance Industries is experiencing a downward trend as its oil, petrochemical, retail & telecom companies dropped their value by 1.47% last Thursday. 2022 so far has shown a 2.3% decrease in the group value.

The Adani Group appears to have the support of Narendra Modi, who, prior to taking office as the Prime Minister of India, was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
