Hosting the inaugural Issuer Forum 2021 under the theme “Founder to Family – Leveraging Going Public” in the Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) invited family businesses to list in the stock market. The forum received an encouraging response as it saw the participation of over 70 representatives from Sri Lanka’s leading family businesses.
The majority belief regarding the listing process is that the process as a whole is cumbersome, expensive and time consuming. Through this forum the CSE and the SEC engaged with the family businesses to address these misconceptions.
It was highlighted during the forum that the government has created a healthy environment and many tax incentives as it was pointed out that the increase of capital in the market is one of the CSE & SEC’s main objectives.
Misconceptions regarding IPO (Initial Public Offering) were clarified. In addition to this the best ways to structure IPO’s, the preparation process that family businesses should undergo in relation to IPO’s and the regulatory benefits that can be attained post IPO were further elaborated on during the forum.
