The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) achieved a significant market milestone of passing LKR 5 trillion in market capitalization while the Year-to-Date Net Foreign Outflow achieved the LKR 50 billion mark.
Yesterday, the All Share Price Index (ASPI) gained 238 points rising by 2%, and the S&PSL20 gained 70 points, also rising by 2%. A turnover of LKR 10 billion was reached via the trade of over 350 million shares. The CSE closed for the day with LKR 5.10 trillion market capitalization, a gain of 72.4% Year-to-Date (YTD).
The major achievement was possible as companies such as ExpoLanka and LOLC continued their dream runs. ExpoLanka closed the day at LKR 281.50, a 7% increase (LKR 18) in its share price, recording a market capitalization of LKR 550.3 billion. The market capitalization achieved by ExpoLanka made it Sri Lanka’s first half-a-trillion company. LKR 284.50 was the intra-day high on the Expo share, while LKR 266 was the intra-day low.
LOLC contributed 81 points to the ASPI. The LOLC share reached an intra-day high of LKR 990 and closed at LKR 983.
The food, beverage & tobacco sector was the highest contributor to the market turnover, with the sector index rising by 1.22%. The Capital Homes sector took home second place, and the sector index rose by 0.36%. As mentioned above, the sectors and the Transportation & Materials Sector collectively accounted for 74.4% of the market turnover.
With an average turnover of LKR 7.6 billion November, 2021 saw the ASPI increase by 1278 points Month-on- Month basis, recording the best performance since January 2021. The S&PSL20 closed higher for the 5th consecutive month with a gain of 167.44 points.
