The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Ajith Nivard Cabraal, stated that the CBSL’s stance on crypto currency has not changed.

In a press briefing on the 6th of October, 2021, it was announced that the cabinet of ministers had approved a proposal submitted by Minister Namal Rajapakse to lay the groundwork to bring Sri Lanka one step closer to trading crypto currency. Based on this announcement, several companies have reported that they now accept crypto currency as a mode of payment.

The Governor stated that the Central Bank would continue to adopt the stance it had taken in the announcement made on the 9th of April, 2021, in which they warned the general public on the dangers of trading in crypto currency.
