In response to the country’s worsening foreign exchange crisis, the governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Ajith Nivard Cabraal, has submitted several proposals to the government.
The CBSL Governor proposes to reduce the number of working days per week to four rather than the usual five. At the same time, the proposal also calls for working hours to extend from 7.30 am – 5.30 pm.
Cabraal also submitted a proposal to discourage use of private vehicles and encourage citizens to use public transport. He called upon the government to conduct a media campaign to raise awareness of fuel-saving.
The governor also proposed a significant increase in fuel prices to ensure that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation does not incur substantial losses.
