ADB Pledges To Allocate Loans Worth $2 Billion This Year

President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Mr. Masatsagu Asakawa, met with president Gotabhaya Rajapakse at the presidential secretariat on the 10th of March.

There Mr. Asakawa said that the projects that have been implemented in the island with the assistance of the ADB have made significant progress and pledged to provide continuous support to Sri Lanka in its development efforts.

During the meeting, President Rajapakse requested ADB’s assistance in implementing green agriculture, renewable energy generation, and foreign direct investment in industrial zones.

President Asakawa said  $2 billion would be allocated for operational projects this year. The ADB provided $750 million in loans last year.

The 55th annual conference of the Asian Development Bank is scheduled to be held from the 5th to the 8th of September this year. While expressing his appreciation for choosing Sri Lanka as the venue for the annual conference, President Rajapakse also assured that every assistance would be provided to make the event a success.
