In a recent interview the Minister of Tourism Prassana Ranatunga revealed that despite the prevailing global Co-vid 19 pandemic Sri Lanka has received a total of 54 new tourist projects in 2020 valued at $879.4 million.
29/54 projects have been finalized valuing at $188.4 million and the rest are expected to be finalized soon. The investments are being co-ordinated by the specialized co-ordinating unit of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (STDA).
The minister also highlighted that Sri Lanka in the past 10 years a total of 854 investments have been made in the tourism sector of Sri Lanka bringing a total of $7,026 million to the country. The minister further stated as part of the government strategy they intend to focus on inbound tourism and plans to develop the sector further in anticipation of the surge in tourist both local and international following the defeat of the worldwide co-vid 19 pandemic.
